Facebook's data center in Eagle Mountain, Utah will be expanding nearly 500,000 square feet since breaking ground early last year. The social media giant plans an expansion from 1 million sq ft to just under 1.5 million sq ft. This is according to a news release posted through Facebook earlier this month: Facebook is Expanding in Utah

From the news release:

"Since we broke ground in May 2018, we have made great progress on our construction. So far, we have poured over 41,000 yards of structural concrete and incorporated over 7,000 tons of steel. Nearly two million hours of work have gone into the site and at peak, there will be approximately 1250 construction workers on site."

We're not only excited for this expansion to continually attract data centers and companies like it, but we'll also be expecting a boost to the local economy through jobs and housing.

"We anticipate with this expansion this data center will represent an investment of more than $1 billion and, once completed, the Eagle Mountain Data Center will support over 200 jobs."

According to Utah's KSL,

Even before the expansion, the data center was the largest to land in the Beehive State. The project’s completion is expected by 2020 and is located at the Sweetwater Industrial Park.
